Description

Clamping systems for 5-axis machining

Collision-free tool paths are the basic prerequisites for effective production on 5-axis machining centres. The clamping systems MC and SCS are especially developed for this request. In conjunction with the QUINTUS rapid change block, the free space for spindle and tool will be further increased.

The encapsulated lead screw area protects all movable components against the penetration of swarf. Due to the absence of a force transmission, there is no risk of a clamping force loss when using grip jaws. The hydraulic variants are also suitable for automated processes. The compact design allows the use of standard tools. This saves money and the investment in clamping technology pays for itself quickly.

The correct clamping jaws for the desired machining task round off the product range: grip jaws, pendulum jaws, step jaws, soft jaws and Vee jaws.

Completely new possibilities of workpiece clamping are achieved by innovative coatings of our clamping jaws.

Clamping system MC-P

Workholding systems of the MC-P series excel by a very compact design and their patented segment design.
Thanks to the adjusting spindle arranged in the upper part of the housing, deformation in the base during clamping is reduced to a minimum.
Thus, a high rigidity of the workholding system is obtained.
The patented segment design ensures a high degree of precision and stability. The guiding clearance is reduced to nearly zero.
All essential components are made of hardened steel.
The workholding systems MC-P 100 / 125 are already prepared for the use on zero point clamping systems. For this purpose, there are location threads for retractable nipples at the bottom side of the housing.
For workholding systems MC-P, a wide range of clamping jaws is available (see data sheet WS 5.450-Z).

Advantages

  • patented segment design
  • compact design
  • high precision and accuracy of the manufactured workpieces by high rigidity
  • high zero-point stability
  • sturdy design and good swarf protection
  • large jaw openings
  • extensive range of jaws
  • clamping of raw and finished parts without retrofitting
  • easy to maintain

Designs

position flexible clamping with mechanical operation
jaw widths 60, 100 and 125 mm

concentric clamping with mechanical operation
jaw widths 40, 60, 100 and 125 mm

concentric clamping with hydraulic operation, double acting
jaw width 60, 100 and 125 mm

clamping against fixed jaw with mechanical operation
jaw widths 40, 60, 100 and 125 mm

Function "position flexible clamping"
The position flexible workholding system MC-P Z Balance has a floating clamping point (with released locking). After operation of the clamping spindle, first the two clamping slides concentrically approach the workpiece. When the first clamping jaw has reached the workpiece, only the second clamping bar will be moved until both clamping jaws are in contact with the workpiece. Only then, the desired clamping force will be introduced into the workpiece using a torque wrench. Subsequently, the clamping position is fixed with the locking spindle.
The adaptation of the clamping point to the workpiece position will prevent a deformation of the workpiece.

Clamping system SCS

The clamping systems of the series SCS are particularly suitable for use on 5-axis machining centres. Thanks to the compact design, the risk of collisions of the machine spindle with the clamping system is minimised. An improved accessibility to small workpieces is achieved by moving the fixed jaw.

The combined use of clamping systems of the series SCS and the rapid change block Quintus provides additional benefits: On the one hand the important distance to the machine table is created, on the other hand setups can be transferred from internal to external and thus the machine running time can be prolonged. This is made by creating a defined interface for the quick change to other clamping systems, for example on three-jaw chucks.
The extensive range of jaws allows the use of the SCS clamping systems for a multitude of machining operations. The clamping systems of the series SCS is available as a mechanical or hydraulic system, depending on the requirements.

Special benefits
● collision-free tool paths
● good protection against swarf by covered lead screw and guideway
● easy clamping with torque wrench or hydraulically
● Flexible applications, extensive accessories and range of clamping jaws

Clamping system SCS

Clamping system PC

For the automation of workpieces, more and more pallet storage units are used that are connected to the machine tool. For the production of small or medium-sized series, pallets are often equipped with mechanically-operated machine vices.
The pallet clamps (clamping jaws with a grip texture) are the elements to choose. Clamping is made concentrically or against fixed jaw; they are of simple design.
The clamping systems PC are the low-cost introduction to the 5-axis machining.

Special benefits
● collision-free tool paths
● simple design
● low acquisition costs

Rapid change block Quintus

QUINTUS rapid change block

The QUINTUS rapid change block provides the optimum interface for your machine tool. A mechanical zero point clamping system (figure 1) allows rapid and precise changing of different clamping systems taking account of the zero point. A further benefit results from the additional elevation of the clamping system on the machine table. The systems Quintus are ground in the height and hardened all-round.
When the clamping system is not changed on the machine table, we recommend the system Quintus without mechanical zero point clamping system (figure 2).

This means that machining tasks can be prepared externally and can then be changed without long machine downtimes. Handling is made easier and set-up and production costs are reduced. For cost-conscious users, we offer a version without zero point clamping system.

Special benefits

  • quick and zero-point precise setup
  • collision-free tool paths
  • mechanical integrated zero point clamping system
  • increased flexibility and increased machine running times
  • 3 sizes in 2 variants for the series MC and SCS

Application examples

Mini clamp MC 100 Z / Quintus 2

The mechanical clamping system "MC 100 Z" concentric, mounted on a rapid change block "Quintus 2": Even complex workpieces are optimally accessible for the 5-side machining, short standard tools can be used without any problems and promise high precision even in complex operations. Tooling costs are reduced. The rapid change block Quintus allows the external setup. The result is less machine down time and increased efficiency of the entire system.

Mini clamp MC 60 H

Two hydraulically operated "MC 60 H" on a reversible clamping system with workpiece-specific clamping jaws for 4-axis complete machining. The hydraulic lines are directly in the base plates of the "MC 60 H".

2 hydraulically operated "MC 60 H" on a reversible clamping system

Mini clamp MC 100 Z

Two mechanical clamping systems "MC 100 Z" position and clamp the workpiece, which has been machined from a block in one set-up from five sides. Thanks to the low clamping edge, the workpiece can be nearly completely machined, so that the material is effectively used. The rapid change block Quintus provides the necessary degree of freedom on the machine table. Optimally designed clamping jaws also increase the process safety for this complex machining task.

Super compact clamp SCS 120 H

Three hydraulically-operated clamping systems "SCS 120 H" on a 5-axis machining centre. The structure is flexible on a common base plate, the individual systems can be adapted by simple movement to different workpiece dimensions. The shown system uses special jaws with hard-metal coating, Clamping and unclamping are made by a valve with turning knob, alternatively, operation can be effected by foot switch or by the machine control. The connection to the machine hydraulics allows the program-controlled regulation of the clamping force.

Super compact clamp SCS 120 H

The use of four hydraulic clamping system "SCS 120 H" arranged star-shaped on a change pallet for machining on a 5-axis machine. The shown system uses special jaws with hard-metal coating, Clamping and unclamping are made by a valve with turning knob, alternatively, operation can be effected by foot switch or by the machine control. The hydraulic system is supplied with pressure oil through deep-hole drilled channels in the base plate.
