Tower clamping systems TS
Series TS: 4 X 90° arrangement, design as monobloc
Series TS Tri-Star: 3 X 120° arrangement, design as monobloc
Application in horizontal machining centres
The tower clamping systems TS are flexible standard fixtures for your production. Whether for small or medium-sized batches, multiple or single clamping: Tower clamping systems TS offer an economical solution. With its 3 x 120° arrangement of the clamping points, the Tri-Star system gives plenty of room for the spindle and the tool. Even extra wide workpieces can be centrally clamped and machined from three sides.
The clamping force is applied mechanically. The use of a torque wrench allows the clamping forces to be adjusted precisely and reproducibly. There is no loss of clamping force when using grip jaws. A high zero-point accuracy and workpiece density is achieved by the central position of the central jaw (fixed jaw).
The 3rd hand function allows the user-friendly loading for all clamping points. An optionally available clamping unit. precisely controlled using a foot switch, keeps both hands free for component handling and enables the operator to position and clamp even heavy workpieces with effortless ease. The version Vector, with 2 lead screws, is particularly suitable for very heavy components.
The tower clamping system TS can be loaded with 4, 8 or 16 workpieces (with floating central jaws). The clamping points can be loaded with differently-sized workpieces. A large practice-oriented range of standard jaws makes the tower clamping system suitable for versatile applications in your production process. The compact spacing of the workpieces reduces the travel distances from one workpiece to the next to a minimum, Superfluous travels
and tool changes are avoided. Effective protection against swarf is ensured by a patented guide and sealing system which ensures many years‘ trouble-free operation of the TS systems.
- process-safe application of clamping force
- easy and safe operation
- flexible use in your production process
- enhanced economics
- easy maintenance
The pneumatic clamping unit greatly improves the operating facility to an unrivalled extent. The operator triggers the clamping and unclamping process by actuating a foot-operated switch. Thus, he can use both hands for handling workpieces, which is especially important in the case of heavy workpieces. The torque for clamping the clamping system TS 125 must not be applied manually. The pneumatic screwdriver which has almost no weight, is suspended from two balancers and can be freely moved. The pneumatic clamping unit combines the reliable and simple mechanical features of the clamping system TS with the user friendliness provided by a hydraulic system.
The clamping system TS can also be used in automated processes. Solutions can be found in the product range "Automation".
Tower Workholding Systems SCT
Clamping against the fixed jaw, mechanically or hydraulically operated
jaw widths 80 and 120 mm, with 3 or 4 clamping sides
SCT tower workholding systems are used on horizontal machining centres, in vertical machining in connection with 4th axis, but also on 5-axis machining centres. The applications range from manually equipped machines to pallet stations and fully automated systems.
The stability of the clamping systems and the high retention force due to the use of the special grip reversible jaw with hard metal coating make pre-embossing of the workpieces superfluous.
Tower workholding systems of the SCT series excel by a very compact design. Thanks to the adjusting spindle arranged in the upper part of the housing, deformation in the base during clamping is reduced.
All essential components are made of steel.
The clamping device can be individually adapted to different distances of travel, to working space, clamping surface and machining task. User-friendly set-up for differently sized workpieces is performed in a jiffy. The use of a pressure gauge (an optional extra) permits exact, continuous clamping force display (important when carrying out rough and finish machining in one operation) and exact clamping force monitoring.
The clamping force can be applied manually using a crank handle (mechanical-hydraulic design) or by means of a hand or foot switch (hydraulic design). VarioLine is suitable for use in both horizontal and vertical machining centres. Direct adaptation to the machine tool is possible using selection parameters.
The standard jaws as well as customer‘s existing special jaws can be used provided that their dimensions fit the HILMA-ROEMHELD standard. This extends the range of applications.

Multiple clamping systems MSH
The high-precision multiple clamping system MSH clamps workpieces with identical or different dimensions in small, mid-sized, and large lot sizes. MSH may be used as an individual system or in combination with additional elements (e.g. towers, bridges, base plates, zero point clamping systems) on all machine tools, machining centres and flexible manufacturing systems.
The simple, well thought-out design guarantees safe and user-friendly handling. The modular design allows any extension to suit specific requirements. Short set-up times, minimum machine travel achieved by high workpieces density, reduced tool changes and a high rate of amortisation, these are the economic advantages of using this system.
- precise, frictional connection between base and clamping module via fine teeth as well as patented eccentric clamping by means of one fixing screw only
- rapid set-up without measuring instruments using the scale on the base module and graduation marks on the fixed and clamping module
- clamping and fixed modules are available in various widths
- clamping modules with a rear contact surface accurate in size workpieces need not be accommodated "in mirror image"

Tower clamping system TS 125
Mechanically-operated square clamping tower "TS 125" for use in series production with floating central jaw for 16 workpieces. The machine runtime is considerably increased. The tower clamping system is also suitable for clamping of complex workpiece contours and the simultaneous machining of components with identical and different dimensions in horizontal machining centres. The patented guide and sealing system guarantees maximum process safety, even for complex machining tasks. The aluminium base plate can be adapted to a wide variety of machine pallets.
Tower clamping system TS 100 Tri-Star
Mechanically-operated triangle clamping tower "TS 100 Tri-Star" for larger components. The clamping system offers the optimum accessibility for the 3-side machining in horizontal machining centres. The tower clamping system is also suitable for clamping of complex workpiece contours and the simultaneous machining of up to 12 workpieces with identical and different dimensions in horizontal machining centres. The programmable zero points at the clamping tower are the same as for the 4-side clamping towers, also the clamping jaws are absolutely compatible. The patented guide and sealing system guarantees maximum process safety, even for complex machining tasks. The aluminium base plate can be adapted to a wide variety of machine pallets.
VarioLine VL 125
Series clamping with 17 hydraulic flexible clamping systems "VarioLine VL 125" on a long-bed machine. The clamping systems are mounted on bases. This will improve the accessibility of the work spindle to the workpiece, and the clamping systems can be individually positioned on the machine table.
The figure shows the simultaneous machining of four differently-sized workpieces. The first workpiece in the front of the figure is clamped with top jaws, that allow the extension of the clamping range of the "VL 125" to up to 721 millimetres. Quick adjustment of the clamping range by socket pins. The shown clamping systems are equipped with the angular drive, available as accessory, that facilitates unclamping and clamping and reduces the set-up time.
The mechanical-hydraulic machine vice "KNC125" with a jaw width of 125 millimetres is used where flexibility and highest precision are required. The "KNC125" has a clamping force of 40 kN and a jaw opening from 0 to 354 millimetres using standard reversible jaws. Quick adjustment of the clamping range using socket pins. Alternatively numerous other standard clamping jaws can be used. Machine vices of the "KNC" series can be used – as shown - on vertical machining centres as well as on horizontal machining centres. Also the use on 5-axis machining centres with extra high clamping jaws is possible.
Multiple clamping systems MSH
The mechanically-operated multiple clamping system "Goliath 120" used as tower system on a horizontal machining centre. The figure shows valve blocks machined in the first and second set-up. By means of the additional support bolts mounted below the workpieces, the user friendliness for clamping and unclamping is increased. For clamping of workpieces with different dimensions, clamping modules can be inserted or removed. Coatings in the clamping surfaces adapted to the specific task increase the process safety by compensating the machining forces. The modular design of the clamping systems MSH allows the optimum utilization of the travel paths within the machine.
