Maintenance of wind power plants especially in off-shore installations make the highest demands on man and material. Harsh weather conditions at sea make the work difficult.
To provide the maximum possible protection for employees and the required safety at work , ROEMHELD has developed, for the operators and manufacturers of wind power plants, a hydraulic and electromechanical rotor lock, that safely, reliably and quickly locks the rotor blade during maintenance works.
The ROEMHELD rotor lock works with hydraulic or electro-mechanical locking mechanism and withstands side loads up to 4,900 kN. The double-acting hydraulic cylinder generates the retracting and extending motion of the bolt and reliably locks the rotor blade of wind power plants up to 6.5 MW within a temperature range from 30°C to +70 °C. A mechanical or inductive position monitoring of the bolt transmits the final positions "Rotor blade secured" and "Rotor free" to the system control and ensures additional safety.
The double-acting hydraulic cylinder generates the extending and retracting movement of the bolt and holding in the safety position. The hydraulic cylinder is guided and installed in a stable housing and provided with a surface protection for use in on- and offshore applications. A position monitoring of the locking and release position is integrated into the housing.

The position monitoring is installed in the flange-mounted housing. The hydraulic cylinder is guided and installed in a stable housing and provided with a surface protection for use in on- and offshore applications.
To achieve a high degree of safety, on the side of the housing an additional mechanical lock can be mounted.
The approaching movement of the bolt is effected by an electric motor. The clamping and unclamping positions are inductively monitored. Due to the type of construction and the drive, the locked position is self-locking. The locking element is suitable for onshore and offshore applications.
The ROEMHELD rotor lock can be directly integrated into the structure of the wind wheel or mounted to the structure in a separate housing.
Locking bolt retracted: The locking bolt is retracted with hydraulic pressure and hold in the retracted position. The rear limit switch signals the retracted position. The wind wheel is free.
Locking bolt extended: The locking bolt is extended with hydraulic pressure and moves into a bore hole in the brake disk of the wind wheel. The front limit switch signals the extended position. The wind wheel is locked.
The rotor lock is installed in a separate housing to be mounted to the structure of the wind wheel.
The function is identical to the function of the integrated rotor lock.
